We asked Belleruche for a little bit of info about the video for their new single Clockwatching, released this week – click here to buy, and then sent us a an amazing reply and some snaps. Here it is in it’s entirety, cleverly interspliced with them photos….
“We met Director Jamie a few years ago, we had worked with him and his brother Nick on a band photo shoot outside a strip joint in Shoreditch. That was for the release of Turntable Soul Music.
A couple of years past and a few drunken parties on, Jamie was interested in doing a video for us. He spoke about Dungeness and its eerie otherworldliness and we were completely up for his idea..
So there we were at the end of March following a white rental van and Jamie along the small and winding roads of South East England. We drove along the coast up to the cliffs of Folkstone for day one of the shoot.

Cue the rain as soon as the equipment comes out..
Folkstone boarders a majestic coastline. We watched the clouds come and go, seagulls glide up from the sea and over the cliffs throughout the day. Well into the afternoon, shoot 1 of day 1 was wrapped up with looming storm clouds on our tail.

There isn’t a pic of us all back in our coastguards cottage defrosting and eating delicious soup made by Mrs Modest, there should have been, but there is of the cake- also courtesy of Mrs Modest… So not long after dinner, the footage is backed up we head out for the night shoot.
After the two pubs closed and the rain held off for a bit, our midnight jaunt into the eerie world outside the nuclear reactor began. We were quite surprised we weren’t asked to move on. I suppose no one really expects a group of nutters to be out there.
Next day, we drove back out onto the shingle for some more silly walking in 5″ stilettos, neither Jamie or I thought this through well enough.. Jamie thought my shoes were important, kind of Helmut Newton stylee… that footage ended up on the editing floor.. Oh and there was also a stuffed buzzard that met its maker, again, on the editing floor… shame about Edward- he was beautiful.

It was a dry and chilly day and the sparse landscape gave no shelter from the sea winds. Although the lifeboat organisation of Dungeness was holding a tea and cake fundraiser, we were all pretty happy they were there, there were numerous donations of gratitude for the fine work they do..
We didn’t have much time to wander about but did drop by filmmaker Derek Jarmans house, you can see a quick view of his house in the video.

Jamie, Mike,Will, Stacey of Archersmark pulled out all the stops for us, it was such a pleasure to work with a great team an we are really happy with the result.”
